A Season in Neutral

It's cold and blustery in the Finger Lakes region today.  Yesterday the sun was shining brilliantly and there was only about an inch of snow on the ground. I bundled up and went for a walk through those woods, delighted to call this little piece of earth mine.  Overnight, however, more than a foot of snow fell, and I wasn't prepared.

I hate thinking about weather.  The weather reports are usually half accurate at best, and here where I live there's a saying "just wait five minutes and it (the weather) will change."  So I have this system about the weather - I believe what I see.  Today I see a LOT of snow, and it keeps falling.

That's the wonder of nature - it keeps moving forward, always moving.  Plants bud in the spring, blossom in summer, then in autumn leaves and blossoms begin to turn brown and fall off, preparing for dormancy during the winter months.

I haven't been moving lately.  I've been stuck in neutral for some time.  When I first realized it I felt bad.  I felt guilty.  Our society doesn't value or understand neutral...stillness...rest.  It values movement, busy-ness and striving.

My feelings of guilt didn't last long because I have learned through much hardship and experience that what others think and believe need not be what I think and believe.

I, and you as well, are allowed to be in neutral anytime we need to be.  The body needs to rest, needs to really experience living with every one of the senses, and to become reacquainted with joy and peace.
